摘要:

Postdoctoral Fellow (Joint BioEnergy Institute) : Berkeley, CA, United States

Berkeley Lab is Bringing Science Solutions to the World, and YOU can be a part of it!

Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (Berkeley Lab) has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the team at the Deconstruction Division at the Joint BioEnergy Institute. Your work will focus on the development of adapted and synthetic microbial communities to depolymerize lignin obtained from multiple plant sources to aromatic small molecules that can be transformed to biofuels and biochemicals.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Adapt microbial consortia to grow on purified lignin substrates
• Isolate and characterize microorganisms that deconstruct and grow on lignin
• Combine isolated microorganisms to create defined communities that deconstruct lignin
• Assist with the development of funding proposals.
• Assist PI with training and oversight of the workflow of other technical staff, GSRAs and Student Assistants.

Additional desired responsibilities:
• Participate in group meetings and seminars.
• Maintain an accurate and detailed scientific logbook of all experiments performed. Ensure that others could duplicate results.

Required Qualifications:
• Recent Ph.D in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and related
• Expertise in microbial community analysis
• Experience in isolation of bacteria and/or fungi
• Experience with analytical tools such as HPLC, GC-MS and NMR
• Good computer skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to write grant proposals and establish independent funding.
• Experience with scientific journal writing submissions and ability to write above average reviews and articles for submission.

Notes:
Berkeley Lab understands the postdoctoral experience in a research environment is unique. We are committed to the growth and development of early career researchers in pursuit of becoming next generation scientists and engineers. Read about the excellent postdoctoral benefits at Berkeley Lab.

This is a 1 year term appointment with the possibility of renewal for up to 5 years based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs. Salary for postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.

This position requires completion of a background check.
