Postdoctoral position in Diabetes Research: New York City, NY, United States

The overall research goal of our laboratory at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine is to understand the molecular and cellular basis of diabetic complications, and to develop new pharmacologic approaches to prevent and treat these devastating problems.

Current questions being addressed in the lab include: the molecular mechanisms underlying hyperglycemic memory, diabetes-induced bone marrow vascular progenitor cell dysfunction, and diabetic cardiovascular disease. We are using techniques of molecular cell biology, mouse genetics, metabolomics, and systems biology to answer these questions.

The candidate must be highly motivated, with a strong background in cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Experience in scientific manuscript and Research Grant writing is important.

Prospective candidates must have the following skills:

• Mouse models: Proficient with mouse breeding, handling and genotyping.
• Cell culture skills: Cell transfection and viral infection; siRNA and shRNA; cell fractionation.
• Protein analysis:Native and SDS PAGE, Western blot analysis, Immunoprecipitation.
• Molecular biology skills: DNA and RNA isolation, Real Time PCR, chromatin immunoprecipitation.
• Informatics skills: EndNote, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of the following is a plus: Seahorse XF96 and XF24, FACS analysis, NIH Image J, and FlowoJo.
• PhD in one of the biomedical sciences
