摘要:

Description: The faculty mentor for this position will be Dr.STEVEN L YOUNGENTOB. A post-doctoral position (funding available for two years – with the potential for renewal for an additional two) is available beginning Oct 1, 2015). As part of an NIAAA funded P50 center grant (Developmental Exposure Alcohol Research Center), the lab investigates the hypothesis that fetal alcohol exposure induces developmental changes in the neural systems involved in the perception and acceptability of alcohol’s flavor (smell, taste and oral irritation), thereby increasing the risk of initial ingestion and continued adolescent abuse. Further, the lab studies how adolescent experience with alcohol augments and perpetuates the fetal effect into adulthood. Using genomic and behavioral tools, the selected individual will participate in projects designed to understand the epigenetic chemosensory mechanisms by which maternal patterns of alcohol use can be transferred to offspring, and via which, the adolescent system is primed to have the effects of fetal exposure augmented through continued use of the drug.
