BioMed X Innovation Center, Im Neuenheimer Feld 583, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany

About BioMed X
The BioMed X Innovation Center constitutes a novel way of collaboration at the interface between academia and industry. At this center, distinguished early career scientists recruited from all over the world are working jointly on novel pre-clinical research projects in the fields of biomedicine, molecular biology, cell biology and bioinformatics. These interdisciplinary project teams are conducting groundbreaking biomedical research in an open innovation lab facility on the campus of the University of Heidelberg, under the guidance of experienced mentors from academia and industry while expanding their scientific network.

What we are looking for
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with a keen interest in bioinformatics and statistics and with a proven track record in next-generation sequencing data analysis.

The successful candidate will contribute to an internationally competitive research group in the field of epigenetic regulation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The group employs high-throughput epigenomics assays, such as whole genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS), ChIP-seq and RNA-seq in combination with cutting-edge epigenetic and molecular biology tools to advance our biological understanding of the disease, identify epigenetic biomarkers for diagnosis and devise novel therapeutic strategies.

The work will be conducted in close cooperation with research groups on the life science campus of the University of Heidelberg and Boehringer Ingelheim's COPD discovery research in Biberach. The applicant will closely interact with these groups and will have access to expertise, tools and resources for this project.

There is flexibility over starting dates but the successful applicant is anticipated to take up the post by November 1th, 2015.

Required skills
·PhD in the area of bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, biostatistics or a related field;
·Extensive experience in mining, integration and analysis (e.g. pathway connectivity) of multiple next-generation sequencing data sets;
·Experience with common bioinformatics methods, tools, websites (e.g. NCBI, UCSC, Ensembl) and data resources (e.g. TCGA ENCODE);
·Experience with retrieving, normalizing and analysing high-throughput datasets using R packages / Bioconductor, as well as in the visual presentation of biological data from high-throughput experiments;
·Excellent communication skills, very good written and spoken English and ability to conduct research independently.

Qualified applicants should send a CV, a summary of research interests, preferably a brief project proposal on how to analyze epigenetic data within the above mentioned scope (one page maximum)...

What we offer
The post is offered for an initial term of two years, with the possibility of prolongation for up to two additional years, and an option for a permanent position. As part of the research group in the above mentioned field the post includes a generous personal salary, services, travels, benefits as well as access to the core facilities of neighboring research institutions and biotechnology companies in Heidelberg.
