摘要:

Postdoctoral Position and PhD Fellowship in DNA Repair and Genome Stability : Los Angeles, CA, United States

Postdoc and PhD Fellowship positions available in the Chiolo Laboratory
Exceptional applicants will also be considered for a Research Associate/Staff Scientist position.

Research Areas: DNA repair, double-strand break repair, homologous recombination, chromatin, heterochromatin, non-coding RNAs, protein degradation, aging, nuclear dynamics, Drosophila

The Chiolo Lab at the University of Southern California (Molecular and Computational Biology Department) is seeking an independent, highly motivated and ambitious young scientist for an NIH-funded research position. The timing is perfect to be involved in projects at the forefront of a new field that is receiving a lot of interest from the scientific community.

Research in the Chiolo lab combines multi-disciplinary approaches to understand the molecular mechanisms of heterochromatin repair and genome stability. Heterochromatin is mostly composed of highly repeated sequences prone to aberrant recombination. The unique mechanisms responsible for coordinating DNA repair in heterochromatin are just starting to emerge, and these studies have major implications for our understanding of cancer etiology and aging. We work on these questions combining traditional cell biology, biochemical and genetic approaches in Drosophila and human cells with cutting-edge live imaging and image analysis methods, advanced super-resolution and deep-tissue imaging techniques, computational modeling, and genome-wide histone mapping.

Ideal candidates will have strong interest in the mechanisms of DNA repair and chromatin/chromosome dynamics, substantial publications demonstrating their previous research accomplishments, enthusiasm for scientific research, creativity, a collaborative nature, and good communication skills.

Individuals with expertise in imaging of live and fixed samples, cell biology, Drosophila genetics, and/or biochemistry are particularly encouraged to apply. Computer programming or scripting experience, and a biophysical background, will also be a valuable plus for this position.

The candidate will join a vibrant lab in a highly collaborative departmental environment, and take advantage of extensive opportunities for excellent interactions with the large number of labs focused on genome stability and nuclear dynamics studies, the Computational Section of our department, and the newly established Center for Advanced Imaging Technologies – an entire building completely dedicated to the establishment of new imaging technologies and analysis methods. The University of Southern California is located in the beautiful city of Los Angeles, with an exceptionally rich natural and cultural environment.
