The Gisela and Erwin Sick Chair of Micro-optics in the Department of Microsystems Engineering at the University of Freiburg offers an open position for a

Senior scientist / Postdoc (A13)

starting November 2015. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the growth and further development of an active research program in the engineering of micro-optics, particularly for applications in medical diagnostics such as micro-optical biopsy. Candidates must have a PhD in an engineering discipline with extensive experience in optics or photonics; a background in medical optics is of advantage. Applicants with degrees in biology, medicine or related areas will be considered in exceptional circumstances.

The research activities in the Laboratory for Micro-optics focus on the development of micro-optics for medicine; tunable and fluidic micro-optics; as well as printable polymer-based optical systems. The Department of Microsystems Engineering offers excellent research and teaching facilities as well as a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment.

This non-permanent position is initially available for three years, with a possible extension for a further three years.
