Postdoc (m/f)
in Polymer Sciences
Code No. 2015/B 12
The place of employment is Teltow (near Berlin, Germany).

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials and coastal research. For further information please refer to: www.hzg.de.

Fundamental research at the Institute of Biomaterial Science of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht is focused on the development of polymer-based biomaterials for medical applications. For the implementation of our translational research on biopolymer-based implants, conducted together with the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT), we are looking to immediately fill the position of a Postdoc (m/f) in Polymer Sciences focussing on polyester- and polydepsipeptide-based polymers, their synthesis, upscaling and characterization. This is initially a two years fixed term contract.

You will be strengthening our research activities in the synthesis of polymeric biomaterials in an interdisciplinary research project. You will be responsible for the synthesis of polyester/depsipeptide-based multiblock copolymers and corresponding oligomer precursors especially via ring-opening polymerization. You will study polymer morphology, polymer architecture including polymer sequence structure of polymer systems as prepared (GPC, mass spectrometry, NMR, etc.) as well as degradation products. You will be responsible for the benchwork of your own projects and will furthermore actively participate in the publication of the results and preparation of patent applications.

You have a PhD in organic chemistry or polymer chemistry with practical experience in the synthesis of polymers or catalyst development. Applicants with a strong interest in translational research are especially welcome. You will work in an interdisciplinary team with chemists, material engineers, biologists, pharmaceutical scientists, immunologists, and scientists of other disciplines in the field of Regenerative Medicine. You are speaking English fluently and can provide documentation of your completed studies and possibly additional or international project work.

Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr. Marc Behl, e-mail: marc.behl@hzg.de.

What we offer:

  • a diversified and responsible job in an international environment
  • an attractive working environment where your ideas and your engagement are
