Postdoctoral Fellow (210316) : Silver Spring, MD, United States

 

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine Inc. (HJF) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the new Cellular Immunology Section at the HIV Research Program (MHRP) located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland. HJFprovides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to theMHRP.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization of data. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments. Makes detailed observations about experiments. Provides data analysis and interpretation.
2. Performs contemporary and emerging technologies to analyze in human T cell immunology, and developing new tools in cellular biology, immunology and virology including:
a. Performs cell-culture of primary cells and cell lines
b. Propagates and clone primary T cells
c. Performs advanced flow cytometry analyses
d. Isolate rare live cells using magnetic separation or flow cytometry
e. Conducts functional assays on primary cells including proliferation, cytokine secretion, co-culture assays
f. Conducts molecular techniques for high throughput qPCR analysis
g. Uses RT-PCR to quantify HIV provirus and viral particles
3. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks
4. Prepares and writes technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
5. Prepares data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
6. Assists with training laboratory staff as needed.
7. Maintains compliance with established laboratory SOPs and safety procedures
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of contemporary and emerging technologies to analyze in human T cell immunology. Experience with project planning, implementation, and data analysis. Experience in presentation at scientific meetings and publication in scientific journals.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: PhD in Immunology or related disciplines.
Minimum Experience: 1 – 2 years’ experience. Relevant publications or presentations at scientific meetings desired
Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; intricate work with hands; carrying of light and moderately heavy laboratory equipment
Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Provide guidance to laboratory staff as needed
Work Environment: Laboratory environment; may involve working with bio-hazardous materials; may require working evenings and weekends
