Post Doctoral Fellow : Philadelphia, PA, United States

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute is an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to conducting basic, clinical and translational research on conditions and diseases that affect children, and is part of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania research community.

A postdoctoral fellow position is available at The Research Institute of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, an interdisciplinary institution dedicated to conducting basic, clinical and translational research on conditions and diseases that affect children.

The position is working in the laboratory of Dr. John Wolfe, a Principal Investigator within the Neurology Research Division of the Research Institute.

The Post-doctoral position is to study delivery of a therapeutic enzyme into the brain. The project goals are to evaluate AAV transduction in animal models of human diseases and perform pre-clinical toxicology studies for regulatory approval of clinical gene therapy trials. The experiments focus on AAV vector transduction via the ventricular system to deliver secreted therapeutic proteins via the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow, which extends throughout the brain, for global gene delivery to treat neurogenetic diseases. Experience with laboratory animals, neurobiology, molecular biology analysis, and fluorescent and histochemical image analysis is desirable.

Postdocs will also be expected to acquire technical, lab management, and manuscript/grant writing skills; and participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. Postdoctoral fellows also may be required to supervise junior lab members, develop new methods and protocols for research, and assist with the development of other research projects in the lab.

The Postdoc experience will serve to extend, refine and enhance skills necessary for professional and career development, and will enable the individual to broaden his/her scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities. It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research, and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group.

Postdocs will be expected to participate in project planning, recording and interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results.

Requirements:
- PhD or equivalent with fewer than two years experience after obtaining degree
CV and letters of reference from 2-3 prior employers who can attest to competency and skills in research will be required.
Neurobiology and/or Stem Cell background a plus
- Lab work includes molecular biology, viral vectors, AAV vector, gene therapy for global brain disease
- Species involved in research include mice, cats, dogs, monkeys
