摘要:

Cheese production involves two classes of bacterial cultures, a starter group and a maturation group. The latter group develops in a spatially constrained geometry where diffusion and limited accessibility of nutrients is a main factor. This 2-year post doc position aims to develop a 3-dimensional cellular automata model for the growth of these bacteria and how they influence their environment as the system matures. The project is financed by Arla and will be done in collaboration with ongoing experiments on the development of a simple cheese.

Description

The project also opens up for more general modelling of microbial ecologies, as it will be part of the activity in the Center for Model of Life at Copenhagen University, www.cmol.nbi.dk. In center for Models of Life we work with phage bacteria interactions, including gene regulation, diversity of bacteria when exposed to phages, spatio-temporal models of competing species, epigenetics, ageing, inflammation, as well as a range of other topics in dynamics of complex systems. The project requires familiarity with implementing quantitative models on computer, which for example could be obtained with a background in physics. Knowledge in biology is not strictly needed. Application formal deadline is 1'st of May, or thereafter until position is filled. The postdoc’s duties will include research within modelling building at biological systems. Further information on the Department is linked at www.science.ku.dk/english/about-the-faculty/departments/. Inquiries about the position can be made to Professor Kim Sneppen, Center for Models of Life, Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, sneppen@nbi.ku.dk. The position is open from 1st August 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.

Benefits

Terms of employment The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff. Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
