Position Announcement

Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Analysis

The Pacific Northwest Diabetes Research Institute (PNDRI) is seeking candidates for a full-time Post-doctoral Fellow with research expertise in the application of computational methods for the analysis of large-scale data sets.  This position will work in the laboratory of Dr. David Galas.  PNDRI is an independent, nonprofit, biomedical research institute dedicated to making scientific discoveries into the fundamental causes of disease and to contribute solutions that improve health.

The successful applicant will collaborate on the development, and the direct application of computational tools for the analysis of large-scale, heterogeneous data sets. The work will be based on the information theory methods recently developed in the Galas laboratory for identifying multivariate dependencies. The results will then be used to generate hypotheses and/or inspire new studies or approaches to improve child health and development, and a variety of medically significant applications.

The candidate should have (1) a PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field; (2) strong applied mathematics background and scientific programming skills; and (3) experience with machine learning/data mining/bioinformatics algorithms and large-scale data analysis. The appointment is for two years, and is renewable contingent upon satisfactory progress.

PNDRI offers a competitive start-up package, flexible and supportive administrative environment, well-equipped laboratory facilities, and access to a vibrant, scientific research community in Seattle, WA.

Application materials must be submitted online to Elaine Skeffington at eskeffington@pnri.org.  Interested candidates should submit the following:

  1. A cover letter that addresses the criteria outlined above;
  2. A summary (maximum of two pages) of research interests;
  3. A curriculum vitae (listing only published or accepted papers);
  4. Up to three relevant reprints;
  5. A list (including email addresses) of three (or more) professional references.

Review of applications will continue until a suitable candidate is identified.
