Research Associate (Assistant Professor)

The Ben May Department for Cancer Research at the University of Chicago is seeking a full-time Research Associate (Assistant Professor) to study the molecular mechanism of protein kinase signaling and its role in human diseases. The primary activity of a Research Associate (Assistant Professor) is academic research in association with a faculty member or team. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree plus at least 4-5 years of post-doctorate research experience working with signal transduction, programmed cell death using both in vitro and animal models. Outstanding research achievement in protein kinase signaling in regulation of programmed cell death, including but not limited to publications in high profile scientific journals, is required. The long-range objective of these investigations is the elucidation of the role of protein kinase signaling in human diseases, as well as the use of the protein kinase signaling network as potential therapeutic agents or targets.

Proficiency in protein kinase signaling in programmed cell death studies is expected. We strongly prefer someone with a record of demonstrated superb skill and research accomplishment in studying the role of protein kinases in regulation of programmed cell death in vitro and in disease models. Applicants must also be familiar with the use of computer techniques such as use of genome browsers, Excel, Word, and Power Point software, on both Apple Mac and PC platforms. In addition to the design and conduct of biochemical, cell biological and animal experiments, the successful candidate will be expected to prepare scientific manuscripts and present his/her findings at scientific meetings.

Applicants must apply online at the University of Chicago Academic Career Opportunities website: http://tinyurl.com/lm5bd4a by uploading the following required documents: cover letter, CV with bibliography, research statement, and the names, e-mail addresses and contact information of three academic references from whom you will request reference letters. Reference letters must be received in order to be considered for this position. Review of applicants will begin April 15th, 2015 and continue until the position is filled.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, protected veteran status or status as an individual with disability.
