Job Description

Postdoctoral Fellow - Molecular Biology / Nanotechnology: University of Michigan, Center for Molecular Imaging, Ann Arbor, MI 48109 United States

Description: Applications are invited for two postdoctoral positions for molecular/cellular biology and nanomaterial engineering in a research group led by Hao Hong, PhD, in the Center for Molecular Imaging (http://www.med.umich.edu/cmi/), located at the medical campus of University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. Our research is a highly translational effort with the goal of developing efficient imaging agents for early disease detection with an emphasis on cancer imaging. Currently our research is focused on three areas: 1) development of PET imaging agents; 2) targeted therapy of cancer; and 3) nanotechnology and its biomedical applications. Successful candidates will be involved with development of their understanding of biochemical mechanisms involved in cancer angiogenesis and progression using an integrated effort consisting of PET imaging, cellular analysis/assays, and chemical engineering methods to design and validate biomarkers at the molecular, cellular, and whole animal level. The candidate will also be involved with conducting experiments related to the use of targeted therapies and outcome monitoring using noninvasive imaging biomarkers. Candidates will have access to and gain experience from the use of a wide variety of state-of-the-art equipment including a Siemens Inveon PET/CT, a GE eXplore speCZT SPECT/CT system, Perkin Elmer IVIS Spectrum CT capable of multi-modal imaging of fluorescence, bioluminescence, Cerenkov & CT, 7T and 9.4T Agilent MRI scanners, a 3T MR Solutions cryo-free MRI with PET & SPECT inserts along with fully functional medicinal and radiochemical synthesis laboratory and comprehensive cellular and molecular biology facilities.

Self-motivation, good writing and oral communication skills, ability to work in a team-oriented setting in a multidisciplinary environment are required. The successful candidatemust hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, material sciences, biomedical engineering, or related field with a strong background in cancer biology/molecular imaging and interests in interdisciplinary research. Experience with PET/optical imaging systems, immunohistological studies, radioisotope handling, and receptor-binding assays is preferred but not necessarily demanded requirement. The starting date is flexible, between Fall 2014 and Fall 2015.

How to apply: Interested candidates should send a letter describing your interest in the position, CV, and names of three references to: Email: hahong@med.umich.edu, Dr. Hao Hong, Assistant Professor of Radiology, University of Michigan.
