Postdoctoral Scientist - Inflammation Biology : Oxford, United Kingdom

NDM Experimental Medicine

Grade 7: £30,434 – £37,394 p.a.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work full-time in Professor Simmons’s group based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The goal of this project is to identify new drug targets for treatment of inflammatory disease, with a focus on regulators of pattern recognition receptor signalling in gastrointestinal inflammation. We have identified highly novel regulators of NOD2 signalling using large scale screening approaches. The project involves mechanistic characterisation of these regulators and evaluation of their therapeutic potential using human cell and tissue samples and in vivo model systems. The work is being performed in collaboration with members of the Target Discovery Institute and Structural Genomics Consortium, Oxford, and also with intensive input from leading medicinal chemists based at the Innovation Support Centre of the Harrington Discovery Institute, US.

You will be a motivated and highly organised researcher possessing knowledge and experience in molecular biology or immunology. A PhD in Immunology or related sciences together with a desire to undertake cutting-edge scientific research will be advantage. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present results clearly and logically, working co-operatively as part of a team as well as independently, are also essential capabilities for this post.

The post is available immediately and fixed-term for up to 3 years initially. Applications from candidates who have not yet completed their PhD will be considered, to be appointed at Grade 6 (£27,057 – £32,277 p.a.) with amended duties and responsibilities.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Monday 5 January 2015 will be considered.
