A 3 year post funded by the Neuroblastoma Society in conjunction with Smile With Siddy is available to examine novel mechanisms for destabilizing the MYCN oncoprotein in neuroblastoma (NB) cells. As approximately half of poor prognosis NB is characterised by MYCN over-expression, therapeutic targeting of MYCN represents a great opportunity for treating NB. Recently, promising small molecule inhibitors which can lead to depletion of MYCN have been reported [seehttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3784814/].

This project will utilise proteomic and molecular biology techniques to characterise new pathways involved in regulating MYCN, and assess novel drugs that may target these pathways. Candidates should have a strong background in cancer biology and therapeutics, together with broad technical expertise pertinent to the aims of the project.
