摘要:
Postdoctoral Positions In Bioinformatics/Systems Biology : Atlanta, GA, United States

Ph.D. level, staff scientist and/or postdoctoral positions in bioinformatics/systems biology with a focus on expression profiling analysis are available in the Innate Immunity program headed by Dr. Bali Pulendran, at the Emory Vaccine Center, in Atlanta, USA. The successful applicants will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary group of researchers including immunologists, vaccinologists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians.

Description:

The successful applicant will work in a multi-disciplinary team to use transcriptome profiling by microarray and RNAseq and systems biology approaches to explore the induction and regulation of immune responses in humans to vaccines. The primary goals of this effort are to: (i) identify key, early correlates of vaccination or ‘signatures’ that defines the initial parameters for later development of protective immune responses, using several vaccines (e.g. Nature Immunology 2009, 10(1):116-125; Immunity 2010, 33(4):516-29; Nature Immunology 2011, 12(8):786-95, 2011; Nature Immunology 2014, 15(2):195-204); (ii) identify early signatures of disease progression in infectious diseases (Cell Host Microbe 2014, 16(1):115-127).

Responsibilities:

The successful candidates will play a leading role in data analysis, which includes integrating
heterogeneous data and developing predictive models and testable hypotheses. He/she will be collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team and will work with immunologists and clinicians to apply novel and complex statistical approaches to immunological data generated in clinical studies.

The specific responsibilities of this position include:

· Development and coding of analysis protocols for in-house datasets and meta-analysis of public data

· Development of novel analytical approaches applicable to the analysis of multi-dimensional time-course datasets integrating transcriptomic and immune data

· Development or adaptation of software tools and scripts to meet project needs

· Support efforts in data management. Our repository currently contains greater than 2000 in-house microarray files, and data from miRNA profiling, Luminex, flow cytometry, metabolomics, etc. The candidates will work on ensuring data integration, security and accessibility.

· Contributing to the writing of manuscripts

Requirements:

· The qualified applicants will have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or in a relevant biological discipline, plus demonstrated experience in bioinformatics research, focusing on transcriptional profiling and predictive modeling.

· Familiarity with working in a Linux/Unix environment; experience is Linux system administration and hardware configuration is a plus

· Experience with development and maintenance of relational databases

· Fluency in at least one programming language (R, Python, Perl, Matlab)

· Adequate knowledge of immunology and molecular biology, and intention to deepen and improve his/her understanding of these fields

· Expert knowledge of bioinformatics applications and biological databases

· Demonstrated ability to present the results of bioinformatics research in a high impact graphical form

· Excellent attention to details and organizational skills. Applicant must have the ability to work in a fast moving interdisciplinary team environment, as well as the ability to discuss issues and provide solutions to scientists with different backgrounds.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferences:

Research novelty, and experience in wet lab molecular biology are highly desirable. Strong quantitative or statistical background, experience in machine learning and predictive modeling will be a plus.

Excellent opportunities and competitive packages are offered to suitable candidates.
