摘要:

Swedish Toxicology Sciences Research Center (Swetox) is a recently created center for interdisciplinary research and education in toxicological sciences based on collaboration between eleven Swedish universities, i.e. University of Gothenburg, Karlstad University, Karolinska Institutet, Royal Institute of
Technology, Linköping University, Lund University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Stockholm University, Umeå University, Uppsala University and Örebro University, with its hub at Swetox Södertälje.

The vision of Swetox is “A chemical safe world”. The goal is to contribute to the development of safe chemicals, a sustainable environment and improved human health. In addition, Swetox aims to promote academic education in toxicological sciences in Sweden and to meet societal needs for improved decision making in the areas of chemicals, health and environment.

One research activity at Swetox is the Formas funded research initiative “Future societal needs and regulatory requirements regarding endocrine disrupter chemicals: exposure, effects and risks (EDC-2020). The program will be organized in five areas with the common goals to i) create an enabling environment for strong research on EDCs, scientific advance and innovation; ii) establish an overarching
national program for research on EDCs, optimize collaboration between the national universities and Swetox, promote interdisciplinary research; iii) establish an international EDC collaboration platform
including world-leading researchers and experts, and iv) establish a national research school in toxicological sciences.

The research at Swetox will be based on 3R (Replace, Reduce, Refine; referring to animal use in research) and 3M (Mechanisms, Markers, Models; a mode-of-action approach in toxicology and risk assessment).
