摘要:
Postdoctoral Fellow on Genomic Selection in Wheat : Aarhus, Denmark

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Aarhus University is seeking a creative, talented and motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to work on genomic selection in plants with a focus on wheat. The project aims at implementing genomic selection in wheat together with a new commercial partner, and offers the challenging possibility to participate in the implementation of genomic selection for a new breeding company, where genomic selection previously hasn’t be used. This job fits within the theme of computational genomic research being undertaken at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, in which synergies across species in the research and application of genomic selection are being built.

The ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary training with a strong quantitative genetics background, knowledge about plant breeding, and experience with integration of high-dimensional genomic and phenotypic datasets, to discover systems level insights into complex traits in crop plants.

The successful candidate will be part of a strong genomic selection research program, which aims to implement genomic selection in commercial breeding programs, and to bring predictive power to our understanding of complex traits in plants.

The position is open for 3 years and the expected starting date is the 1st of January 2015.

Qualifications and competences

  • PhD or equivalent in plant breeding, quantitative genetics, statistical genetics, quantitative genomics or related fields
  • Experience in genome-wide association studies and genomic selection in plants
  • Ability to work in collaborative partnership networks with external academic and industry partners in the areas of quantitative genetics and genomic selection
  • Strong interest in use of stochastic and deterministic simulation tools to study and optimize genomic selection programs for complex traits in plants
  • Proficiency in computational biology, including running and optimizing large scale analyses on high performance computers
  • Advanced competences in methods used in genomic prediction and selection for complex traits in commercial populations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and the ability to explain complex data to non-experts, are required
  • Knowledge of a high level programming language be an advantage
