UCL Department of Chemistry

Research Associate in STM Surface Science

The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £33,353 to £40,313 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Research Associate will work in the laboratory of Professor Geoff Thornton, in the Department of Chemistry at University College London. The appointee will work on an ERC funded project 'Energy Functional Metal Oxide Surfaces'.

The postholder will be required to carry out research into imaging of metals and molecules on metal oxide surfaces, particularly on TiO2 and CeO2 surfaces. The project will employ three UHV Omicron STMinstruments in UCL. Associated measurements may occasionally be made at synchroton sources.

The post is funded until 30th September 2016 in the first instance, and the start date will be as soon as possible.

Applicants must have experience in UHV STM. Previous experience with other UHV techniques, particularly synchrotron methods, and metal oxide surface science is desirable. The successful candidate will have a PhD in UHV Surface Science or will have submitted their thesis prior to taking up the position.

Please note, appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be as Research Assistant Grade 6 (£29,193 to £30,783p.a. incl.
