摘要:

You will use synchrotron and laboratory x-ray imaging to probe the behaviour of soft solids and metallic alloys in situ, as they are solidifying and being thermo-mechanically processed. You will develop and use novel in situ rigs to quantify evolving microstructures to generate new insights processing-microstructure-property relationships. You will analyse the time resolved 3D images via applying existing, and developing new, image processing and modelling techniques. The core focus will be on metallic alloys, but you will collaboratively study materials ranging from ice cream to magma.

You will be working with Prof. Lee and a dynamic team of academics, beamline scientists, post-docs and PhD students that form the Diamond-Manchester Collaboration (DMC) team at the Research Complex at Harwell  in Oxfordshire. The DMC is part of the Manchester X-ray Imaging Facility, winner of the 2013 Queen’s Anniversary Prize for contributions to New Techniques in X-Ray Imaging of Materials Critical for Power, Transport and Other Key Industries.

You will need to show a high level of initiative and an ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Applicants should have a relevant PhD, or equivalent experience, in an engineering or physical science area, good team-working skills, a strong command of English and an excellent publication record.

Informal Enquiries

Informal enquiries may be made to: Professor Peter Lee,

The School of Materials is committed to promoting equality and diversity, including the Athena SWAN charter for promoting women’s careers in STEMM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine) in higher education. The School received a Bronze Award in 2013 for their commitment to the representation of women in the workplace and we particularly welcome applications from women for this post. Appointment will always be made on merit.
