The Department of Public Health Sciences within the Henry Ford Hospital (HFH) and the Josephine Ford Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan invites applications for a post-doctoral fellow position, available immediately, within our active Cancer Epidemiology research group. We have ongoing research in prostate, breast, ovarian, lung and colon cancer. Resources include an electronic medical record and patient databases in place for over 20 years, and a frozen tissue biorepository with specimen collection over the past 15 years.

We seek talented and motivated candidates who plan to begin or expand their research career as a cancer epidemiologist and who wish to play a leading role on projects focused on molecular epidemiology research of patients conducted within the large diverse HFH patient population.

In addition, the position offers opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaborations and professional development including publication, presentation at scientific conferences and involvement in proposal writing.

Strong analytic skills, with basic knowledge of statistical genetic and bioinformatics software packages as well as basic computer programming skills are strongly desired. Candidates should have strong communication skills, with experience in research design, and scientific writing.

Please send a cover letter, CV, research statement, and contact information for 2 references to the email address below. Depending on funding and performance, this fellowship opportunity can be extended to a third year.

HFH is located in midtown Detroit and is one of top cancer hospitals in the United States with over 14,000 cancer-related patient visits a year. Subsidized apartment housing in the newly developed midtown Detroit area is available (midtowndetroitinc.org). In addition to clinicians developing cutting edge surgical techniques and cancer treatment regimens for a large diverse patient population, we have world-class research faculty including geneticists, pathologists, biostatisticians, cancer biologists and epidemiologists involved in cancer research.
