Job Description

The Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia seeks a postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Erin Foff, MD PhD in collaboration with Dr. Benjamin Purow, MD. The incumbent will conduct studies investigating the role of miRNA and protein factors in mediating neurologic injury in several neurodegenerative disorders caused by nucleotide repeat disorders, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal degeneration. Additional duties will include writing and preparing manuscripts for scientific publication, participation in lab meetings and active collaboration with other researchers. Candidates must have an MD and/or PhD in molecular/cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, neuroscience or related field, in hand by start date, have less than 3 years' postdoctoral experience, and have published in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate must have demonstrated expertise in basic neuroscience or molecular biology research. Previous experience in iPSC manipulation, cell culture including neuronal cell culture, RNA, murine models, and immunohistochemistry is preferred though not strictly required. The candidate must work independently and ethically, document all research data appropriately, apply for independent funding where applicable, and publish data in qualified journals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The candidate should demonstrate potential to be trained as an independent investigator.
