摘要:

Location: Highfield Campus
Full Time Fixed Term (1 year)
Closing Date: Friday 24 October 2014

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow (post-doc) at the University of Southampton, UK. The position will be held within Electronics and Computer Science. The position is for a 1-year period in the first instance, with possible extension to 2 years. You will be working on a project with an interdisciplinary team consisting of researchers from Economics and Computer Science.

The project, led by prof m.c. schraefel, is seeking to understand the specific obstacles to, and mechanisms for, embodying meaningful consent in the digital economy. Despite being asked to "agree" constantly to terms of service, we do not currently have "meaningful consent", in particular with regards to the use of our personal data. The project aims to understand issues surrounding informed consent, develop technologies for enabling informed consent, as well as considering business and policy implications.

The post will focus on the socio-economic aspects of understanding consent, and issues surrounding privacy, through experimental design with human participants. It will also involve work on outlining design principles and HCI best practice in relation to obtaining informed consent.

You will be working directly with prof schraefel and Dr. Enrico Gerding from the Agents, Interaction and Complexity Research Group of Electronics and computer science, as well as being part of a larger interdisciplinary team.

We are looking for applicants with a strong background in Computer Science and practice in Human Computer Interaction. Applicants with demonstrated research around consent and privacy are particularly welcome.

This position requires a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications to satisfy these attributes. In addition, programming skills, statistical skills, prior experience with setting up human trials are desired. We also seek participants who are self-motivated, can work well in teams, and deliver excellent research outcomes.

Informal enquiries may be made to Dr Enrico Gerding or prof. schraefel
