A postdoctoral training position is immediately available in Dr. Joseph Hyser's laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology, in Houston, Texas. The goal of this project is to investigate the role of the HIV viroporin Vpu on the disruption in calcium homeostasis and induction of autophagy in HIV infected T cells and macrophages. Studies will focus on determining the role calcium signaling plays in autophagy and the possible contribution of Vpu viroporin activity. The successful candidate should have a doctorate degree (or expected to graduate with a PhD soon) with work experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology, and a peer-reviewed publication record. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in HIV research, experience working with Jurkat, THP-1 cell lines, as well as primary T cells and macrophages, and confocal microscopy. Experience in live cell imaging, particularly calcium imaging is beneficial but not a prerequisite. Excellent communication, time management skills and teamwork are required.
