We are seeking to appoint an individual to join Dr Jason Parsons’ Research Group in the Department of Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine. The Group is based in the North West Cancer Research Centre, which houses high quality research facilities and offers an outstanding research environment for successful postdoctoral training. You will be part of an enthusiastic team, performing Medical Research Council-funded research aimed at investigating the cellular response to ionising radiation-induced DNA damage. Under the direct supervision of Dr Parsons and in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Oxford, you will investigate the epigenetic mechanisms involved in human cells following induction of DNA damage by ionising radiation. This cutting edge research will involve discovering histone modifications, as well as the enzymes catalysing these modifications, and is important for our further understanding of radiation biology and in the identification of novel targets for drugs and inhibitors to improve the efficacy of radiotherapy in cancer treatment. You should have a PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related science. A high level of technical competence and experience in standard biochemical and molecular biology techniques is required and expertise in mammalian cell culture would be advantageous. You should also have a keen interest in DNA damage response mechanisms, a willingness to learn, excellent written and communication skills and the ability to work independently and within in a team environment. The post is available until 30 September 2017.
