Research Scientist / Post-doc in Bioinspired and Biomimetic Polymer and Peptidic Hybrid Materials. : Singapore, Singapore

The Biological & Biomimetic Materials Laboratory in the School of Materials Science and Engineering (http://www.mse.ntu.edu.sg/) at NTU is looking for 1 Senior Research Fellow/Post-doc to participate in an exciting multi-disciplinary research program in the field of bio-inspired and biomimetic materials synthesis, with emphasis on duplicating protein-based materials and protein/polysaccharide composites, or biomimetic hydrogels.

Job title: Research Scientist / Post-doc in Bioinspired and Biomimetic Polymer and Peptidic Hybrid Materials.

Job qualifications

a. Strong background in polymer chemistry synthesis, with experience on methods such as ring-opening polymerization, polypeptide synthesis, polysaccharide chemistry, or functionalization of natural polymers.

b. Solid experience with modern polymer characterization techniques, such as spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman, DSC, GPC, NMR etc.) imaging (AFM, TEM, SEM), x-ray techniques (SAXS, WAXS), mechanical testing (especially rheology), etc.

c. PhD in materials science or chemistry, with specialization in polymer or protein chemistry, hydrogels, or colloid chemistry. Excellent publication record.

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic interdisciplinary research group devoted to biological and bioinspired materials (http://www3.ntu.edu.sg/home/ali.miserez/index.html), comprising materials scientists, biochemists/molecular biologists, and biophysicists, which all collaborate in a strongly interacting matter. His/her role will be to devise the synthetic strategies that mimic the characteristics of model structural biological materials. The emphasis of the research will be on (1) synthesizing self-assembled polysaccharide/peptide structural composites and gels, (2) preparing hybrid protein/inorganic materials and hydrogels using biomimetic peptides and recombinant structural proteins identified in our lab. The candidate will also directly supervise graduate students in relation to these projects.

Salary are internationally competitive at the post-doctoral level, and commensurate with experience. The programme will attract researchers world-wide and the research atmosphere at NTU and Singapore in general is diverse, vibrant, and well-funded. The research will involve a substantial level of international collaboration with world-leading academic institutions.

Suitably qualified applicants are invited to send in their application with detailed resume and sample research publications by email to:
