Postdoc position in 3D video processing : Brussels, Belgium

Aiming at expanding our research expertise and activities in the area of 3D video, we are currently seeking for an experienced, highly motivated postdoc researcher with a strong background in mathematics and digital signal processing. This 2 year postdoc position aims at addressing the great challenges in 3D video and free viewpoint video. The successful candidate has an excellent publication record in multiview video processing, excelent programming skills, and aims at pursuing a scientific career.

Description

Work environment The Electronics and Informatics department (ETRO) belongs to the Faculty of Engineering Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and is part of the Future Media & Imaging Department of the iMinds Research Institute. ETRO performs research on the representation, transmission, analysis, quality assessment and visualization of multidimensional signals. ETRO has built a large international collaboration network with a wide variety of industrial partners, academic institutions and R&D centres, and participates in a numerous fundamental, strategic and applied research projects in these domains. Research topic In recent years, we have seen the convergence of new technologies from computer vision and computer graphics that offer new multimedia experience, such as 3D Video (3DV) and free viewpoint video (FVV). These technologies increase the realism of the rendered scenes as well as the quality of the immersion feeling of the observer. Research in the context of this postdoc position will be targeted towards virtual view generation based on multiview video. Research aspects include multiview video inpainting, depth image based rendering, depth processing for accurate virtual view synthesis, consistent view generation and colour transfer techniques. This research aims at advancing the state-of-the-art in virtual view synthesis based on multiview video. Additionally, the developed techniques are particularly relevant in the context of multiview video compression, and investigating their impact in this domain is also foreseen. Besides the scientific challenge, the position provides a great opportunity to work closely together with experienced researchers in the field of multidimensional signal processing and data compression. Prerequisites & other requirements You have a master degree in electrical engineering, mathematics or physics and a PhD degree in research fields associated to this position. You are attracted by the challenges in the domains of 3D video and multidimensional signal processing. You have already an excellent publication track record with relevant publications in renowned journals and you have the ambition to pursue a scientific career. You have a thorough background in mathematics and digital signal processing. You have excellent programming skills (C/C++) and profound MATLAB experience. You are a team player. You have excellent oral and written communication skills. Fluency in English is a must, given the international character of the department.
