Lecturer in Experimental Quantum Spintronics

The School of Physics and Astronomy is a world-class research environment that excels in teaching, and is seeking to appoint an exceptional academic candidate in the area of Experimental Quantum Spintronics with an interest in the development of novel Quantum Technologies. As pointed out recently by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), utilising properties beyond the classical limit will transform metrology, communication, imaging, the simulation of complex systems, and ultimately computing. Success in this area of research requires a deeper understanding of quantum physics.

You will have a PhD in experimental Condensed Matter Physics or a closely related discipline, with experience in Spintronics, in particular working towards the quantum limit as in, for example, single electron physics. An excellent research track record in experimental quantum physics, and a strong commitment to teaching in a research environment are essential. We are looking for candidates who can complement the existing experimental work on Spintronics in the Condensed Matter group and strengthen our connection to the Quantum Information group in Leeds.

The University of Leeds’ commitment to women in science has been recognised with a national accolade, receiving the Athena SWAN Bronze Award, and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences holds the Athena SWAN Silver Award in recognition of our success in recruiting, retaining and developing/promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET). We are proud of our commitment to equality and inclusiveness, and offer generous terms and conditions of employment, a wide range of benefits, services, facilities and family friendly policies. Full details are available on the Human Resources web pages accessible at www.leeds.ac.uk/hr/index.htm .

Applications from women, who are currently under-represented in this area, will be particularly welcome; however, the final recruitment decision will be based solely on merit.

University Grade 8 (£38,511 – £45,954 p.a, includes pay increase effective from 1 August 2014)
