摘要:

Postdoc Position in Experimental Physics of Materials

The groups of ‘Physics of Nanostructured Materials’ and ‘Solid state Physics - Interfaces and Nanostructures‘ are young research units of the Department of Physics (research area of Physics of Functional Materials, Nanostructures and Bio Systems). They are led by Prof. A. V. Silhanek and Prof. N. D. Nguyen, respectively.

Current research fields include thin film materials and devices, superconductivity, magnetism and semiconductor physics. In the framework of a starting project on magnetic thin film materials, we are presently looking for a post-doctoral researcher with experience in physical vapor deposition, including thermal evaporation, sputtering, e-beam evaporation, thin film metrology and magnetic measurements.

Job description

You will be responsible for the research and development on thin film growth by physical vapor deposition.

Your tasks will include :

  • Fundamental research on magnetic semiconductor materials and superconductivity.
  • Development and optimization of physical vapor deposition processes for thin films.
  • Coordination of the work of junior researchers.
  • Reporting to project partners.
  • Publishing in international journals and communicating in major conferences in the research field.

Profile

  • You have a PhD degree in Physics/Engineering.
  • Practical experience in thin film growth is a requirement. Additional experience with semiconductors and/or superconductors is an asset while knowledge on magnetic materials is beneficial to the project but not mandatory.
  • You are a self-starter and a hands-on person.
  • You are able to pursue challenging interdisciplinary problems.
  • You have excellent reporting skills and are able to present scientific results (publications, conferences, seminars).
  • You can easily integrate in an interdisciplinary team with diverse backgrounds.
  • You have an excellent command of the English language and excellent communication skills. Working knowledge of French is an asset.

This postdoctoral position is funded by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation through the University of Liège. Because of the specific financing statute which targets international mobility for postdocs, only candidates
who did not stay or work/study in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years can be considered for the position (short stays such as holiday, participation in conferences, etc. are not taken into account).

We offer

We offer a challenging position for 2 years at the University of Liège. The contract starts on October 1st, 2014, with a trial period of 3 months. Wages are in agreement with the salary scale of the university.
