摘要:

The research focus of this position (in an NIH-supported project) will be in the area of computational comparative genomics. The goal is to design novel computational methods to understand the trajectory of genome evolution and the molecular signatures of phenotypic variation across different mammalian species. The insights from such comparative genomic analysis can in turn help us identify key genetic variants related to human diseases. Specific topics of interest include algorithm development for whole-genome sequence alignment, evolutionary genomics of gene regulation, and the identification of key regulatory sequences that contribute to human biology. The work will heavily utilize large-scale high-throughput sequencing data, including data from projects such as Genome 10K, ENCODE, and Roadmap Epigenomics project. The candidate will be expected to participate in both novel methods development and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in computational biology, computer science, applied mathematics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or relevant physical science areas.
  • Experience in genetics/genomics, especially sequence analysis.
  • Strong programming skills in C or C++ as well as scripting languages.
  • Comfortable in a linux environment, dealing with large data sets.

Term

The term for this position is flexible but most likely will be 3 years. The proposed start date is Fall 2014.
