Job Description

•Are you passionate about creating a positive impact through innovation?
•Exciting opportunity to kick-start your career in a professional and supportive leading scientific agency
•Join our team at CSIRO - Australia's premier science & technology research organisation!

CSIRO offers PhD graduates an opportunity to launch their scientific careers through our Postdoctoral Fellowships. Successful applicants will work with leaders in the field of science, receive personal development and learning opportunities, and work with cutting edge technology.

CSIRO is seeking a motivated and innovative postdoctoral researcher to carry out research in analysis and control of distributed energy resources to reduce peak demand and support integration of renewable generation in electricity distribution networks. In this role, you will develop new model structures, algorithms and methods to represent realistic populations of residential loads and photovoltaic generators, estimate and validate model parameters using real data, and integrate temperature and solar irradiance data to produce short-term residential electricity generation and demand forecasts. This project falls within the CSIRO Local Energy Systems theme, which focuses on technologies to mitigate the energy demand challenges faced by our electricity networks, and integrate renewable energy sources into the electricity system.

Location: CSIRO Energy Technology Centre, Newcastle, New South Wales
Salary: $78K to $88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Ref no: NSW14/01410
Tenure: 3 years

To be successful you will have to:
•Have obtained a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant area of research
•Develop, and validate against real-data, mathematical models for dynamic aggregate response of distributed energy resources such as controllable loads and small renewable generators connected through inverters
•Deploy these models in a probabilistic framework to predict scenarios with quantifiable confidence bounds to test, validate and compare options for the management of distributed loads, generation and storage
•Develop conceptual designs of less costly or more effective implementation strategies for dynamic load control of populations of distributed devices over limited communications networks
•Implement prototype designs in standard control and instrumentation lab platforms
•Interact with other researchers engaged in a range of projects, and contribute to the progress of the broad research and development effort
•Highly desirable: have experience and/or programming skills with software such as Power Factory and PSS SINCAL; and demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with local and international institutes working in similar areas.
