Postdoctoral Research Scientist : Cambridge, United Kingdom

Bioinformatics of stem cell transcription factor networks and their epigenetic regulation

Salary £17,554 p.a. (16h/week)

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated part-time scientist on the postdoctoral level with extensive bioinformatics skills for expert analysis of high-throughput sequencing data. The applicant will have a good understanding of the biological background and interact with the wet lab scientists in the lab to study the transcriptional networks and their epigenetic regulation in embryonic (ES) and trophoblast (TS) stem cells. Key goals of the project will be to analyse a cohort of ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and epigenomic profiles and integrate them with other available genome-wide datasets to identify stem cell-specific networks. State-of-the-art data analysis will be performed including sequence motif discovery, establishment of co-occupancy maps, enhancer identification etc. This work will be conducted in close interaction with the Bioinformatics Group at the Babraham Institute that provide an interaction platform to advance analysis pipelines in line with growing requirements towards single-cell based applications.

The applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in a natural sciences subject (ideally in a biology-related area), to have a strong working knowledge of biological concepts of stem cells, genetics and epigenetics, and ideally to have working experience in a research environment. It is essential that s/he can demonstrate adequate mathematical competence. S/he will have proven experience in writing analysis applications (code) in a “general purpose” language such as Perl, Python, Java, C etc., has experience in applying existing tools to the analysis of large datasets and has proven experience in analyzing next-generation sequencing datasets. The applicant will join a vibrant research environment and work in close interaction with members of the laboratory and at the interface with the Bioinformatics Core. The position is available on a 16 hours per week basis that can be flexibly structured. Further enquiries on the position may be made to Myriam Hemberger (myriam.hemberger@babraham.ac.uk).
