摘要:
Postdoctoral position at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw in the group of Szymon Malinowski on small-scale processes in clouds. The position is a part of Polish National Science Centre MESTRO project “Cloud Microdynamics”. A candidate should have a research record in at least two areas from these listed below: • hydrodynamic and/or atmospheric measurements and related data analysis; • analysis of outputs from massive numerical experiments and/or large experimental data sets; • atmospheric modeling; • hydrodynamic modeling. proven by journal publications and conference presentations. If employed, candidate is expected to actively participate in the project and to publish his/her research results in scientific journals. Possible participation in laboratory measurements in Poland and abroad.

Description

The position is a part of Polish National Science Centre MESTRO project “Cloud Microdynamics” in active scientific collaboration with JGU Mainz (Germany), MPIDS Goettingen (Germany), NCAR Boulder (CO,USA) and many other groups active in fields of cloud physics and turbulence. The project, lead by Szymon Malinowski is focused on improved understanding of interaction between turbulence, cloud microphysics and thermodynamics. The goal is to provide tools suitalbe for parameterizations of small-scale cloud processes in weather and climate models. Project combines advanced measurements in a laboratory cloud chamber, collection and analysis of atmospheric data (including airborne measurements) as well as related numerical experiments (LES and DNS) using EULAG numerical code running on massively parallel copmuters. Theoretical (in particular numerical modeling) and/or experimental skills (atmospheric mesurements, laboratory fluid dynamics) are desirable, computer abilities/skills are necessary. The group has a long lasting record of international collaborations in cloud physics research and turbulence, which will be strenghtened and furher developed in the course of the project. We offer work in a small friendly team higly focused on the subject of research, not on a particular research method. Teaching experience is higly desirable due to foreseen co-supervision of graduate and postgraduate students. Funding for a four-year-long participation in the project is on a level of 6500 PLN/month gross, plus banefits typical to academic positions at the University ow Warsaw (“13”th salary, academic vacations). A small adjustment of the salary in accordance to the salary growth rate at the University is foreseen.
