摘要:

Salary range £29,388 to £37,393 per annum dependent on experience. Closing date: 30th May 2014

We are looking for highly motivated postdoctoral candidates who have experience in mammalian expression systems, recombinant protein purification and high throughput assays.

By developing high throughput technologies to detect extracellular protein interactions, the cell surface signalling laboratory has identified novel extracellular receptor-ligand interactions involved in infectious diseases such as malaria (see Nature v480 p534). The project will involve screening for novel host-pathogen receptor-ligand interactions using a library of recombinant proteins. The protein libraries will also be used to determine the functional consequences of the identified interactions in cell-based assays.

Essential Skills

  • PhD in a relevant subject area
  • Previous knowledge and skill in molecular biology techniques: PCR, restriction enzyme cloning, plasmids preps
  • Knowledge and initiative required to drive forward and develop new areas of research within the group
  • Excellent communication skills to allow presentation of relatively complex data in simple terms and explain these to others less experienced

This position is fixed-term for maternity cover. Due to the nature of the contract no minimum or maximum period of employment can be guaranteed. You should be aware the maximum period of maternity leave available to our employees is 12 months.

The Genome Campus is a 100-acre estate south of Cambridge in the grounds of Hinxton Hall. Nestled in the quiet countryside of these landscaped gardens, are two world-class research facilities: the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI). The site has become the British hub of biomedical science. The Campus is also home to the Wellcome Trust Advanced Course and Scientific Conferences programme and the Wellcome Trust Conference Centre.

In addition to its peaceful location the campus offers excellent facilities including a start of the art data centre, gym, two cafes, a nursery, dining facilities, a cycle to work scheme, car sharing and free campus buses from various locations around Cambridge.

Learning, development and networking are other important aspects of life on campus. there are a range of scientific seminars with our own and invited speakers, scientific group meetings and skills development workshops.

Our Benefits include: Defined Benefit Pension Scheme, Group Income Protection, Healthcare scheme, Childcare Vouchers, Nursery and Annual Leave 25 days plus Bank Holidays.
