Research Associate – Enhanced Oil Recovery – 2 years

Heriot-Watt University -Institute of Petroleum Engineering

£29,837 - £36,661

The Institute of Petroleum Engineering at Heriot-Watt University is a postgraduate Institute with a number of popular and industry-standard Masters courses, as well as a population of PhD students and post-doctoral researchers.

The Institute is one of the world leaders in the research area of enhanced oil and gas recovery. An opportunity has arisen within the Centre for Enhanced Oil Recovery and CO2 solutions to support and current and future research activities in this area.

The Institute is currently seeking to recruit a Research Associate for a two-year period to carry out and support the experimental and theoretical activities related to multiphase fluid flow in porous media including gas injection, WAG injection, CO2 and foam injection. The role will involve the following duties:

  • Designing and performing coreflood experiments including gas, water and WAG injection experiments at high pressure and high temperature.
  • Designing and performing coreflood experiments under two-phase and three-phase conditions to investigate the effects of IFT, wettability, rock type, and fluid injection strategy on oil recovery and the associated multiphase flow functions.
  • Processing, analysis and interpretation of experimental data.
  • Numerical simulation of the experimental data using commercial simulators as well as the in-house 3RPSim software.
  • Training less experienced PhD students and staff in the above areas.
  • Presenting the results of the above studies in technical internal, national and international meetings in the form of technical reports, papers and oral presentations.

The Institute is looking to employ an individual with at least four years’ experience in performing the above experiments in a reputed laboratory with an established track record in the above areas.
