Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in Non-Stationary Wireless MIMO Channel Models

Salary: £29,837 - £36, 661

A Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) is sought for a period of 1 year, initially, from 2 June 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The overall aim of this project, which is fully funded by Huawei Technologies, is to propose non-stationary multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel models with time-varying small-scale parameters which can characterise the underlying channel at any time/location experienced by the user equipment with its movement. The proposed MIMO channel models can be based on IMT-Advanced (IMT-A) channel models and should provide a good trade-off between accuracy and complexity. The proposed time-varying model parameters and statistical properties of the MIMO channel models will be verified by channel measurements. With sufficient accuracy, the proposed channel models with time-varying parameters should be capable of being used in real system/link level simulations with acceptable computational complexity. Taking the standardized IMT-A channel model as an example, the computational complexity of the improved IMT-A channel model with time-varying parameters can increase preferably within the range of 20%-30% compared with the computational complexity of the original IMT-A channel model.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated PDRA willing to work as part of a team. Applicants should have a PhD (or have submitted a PhD thesis) in Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering or a related discipline. Excellent knowledge and strong background in mathematics, stochastic processes, and wireless communications, together with considerable experience in wireless MIMO channel measurements/modelling, evidenced by high-quality research publications, is required. Applicants must also have excellent written, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills as well as excellent Software programming skills (Matlab and C/C++) appropriate for wireless simulation work. It is desirable that the applicants have some knowledge in standardised wireless MIMO channel models.
