The University of Bristol wishes to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant for three years from 1 Oct 2014 to work on the AHRC-funded project ‘The Thatcherite Pension Reforms and their Consequences’. The project will elucidate developments in UK pension provision in the 1980s (and the consequences of the Conservative government’s reforms) in the context of a marked and highly political shift by the government away from collective to private provision. Working with Dr Hugh Pemberton and Professor Roger Middleton, you will carry out research in a number of UK archives as well as conducting oral history interviews jointly with another project team member. You will be an active participant in a research team including a doctoral student. You will jointly author a number of outputs including a monograph as well as publishing in your own right and contributing to the development of the project’s impact strategy.

You will hold a PhD in History or in a discipline relevant to the study of contemporary political history, have experience of archival research, and be willing and able to contribute intellectually and administratively to the development of the project. You will also be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.

Grade: Research Assistant Level A, Pathway 2, Grade I Salary: £30,728 to £34,565
